Youth Visual Art Competition & Showcase

This activity provides an exceptional opportunity for young visual artist to showcase their work and to have pieces of their artistic expressions commissioned and displayed in prominent spaces throughout the 2017 - 2018 fiscal year.   

The competition is open to young persons between the ages 12 - 30 years, and the piece submitted for judging should depict the theme:  #youthVOICE.  

#youthVOICE is the theme for the 2017 National Youth Month celebrations, and it represents the opinion that Young people are "VEHICLES (V)  OF (O)  INITIATIVE (I), CHANGE (C) and EXCELLENCE (E).  

Persons entering the competition are free to use any visual art expression, abstract or otherwise.  Once submitted, it should be noted that the pieces become an asset of the Government of The Bahamas.  The pieces will be judged by local professional artists and curators and cash prizes will be awarded as follows:

 

1st Place - $1,000.00

2nd Place - $750.00

3rd Place - $500.00

 

Interested persons should completed the below application.  The deadline for submission of applications is Friday, October 13, 2017.  Pieces being submitted for judging should be submitted to Mr. John Ronald Darville at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture on University Drive on or before Friday, October 27, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.  Judging will take place between the house of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on the submission day, and the winners will be announced at a reception scheduled for Monday, October 30, 2017.  Venue to be announced.  Each artist is allowed ten (10) guests to accompany them at the reception.
