"A National Youth Enterprise Programme"
We are pleased to introduce the latest programme of The Ministry: “The Boardroom". This programme is designed to stimulate and support micro-business among youth (age 15 - 33 years). The programme commences with a training period, April 28 - May 26, 2016, every Thursday evening, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the Ministry's Conference Room on Thompson Boulevard. All training sessions will be podcasted over Youtube to allow participation from Bahamian youth who are on the Family Islands.
At the end of the training period, participants will be invited to submit business proposals which should include:
a concept note,
product prototype and
a recorded video pitch.
All submissions will be reviewed by a screening panel and the top twenty (20) submissions will be selected to make further presentation to a panel of three (3) judges. Judges will decide to award $0 - $5,000 based on the pitch. All presentations will be recorded over a two-day period; the recording will then be produced to yield a seven (7) episode television series “The Boardroom”.
To ensure maximum exposure for all participants, all video submissions will be launched from a social media platform and the public will be invited to vote for the best pitch, which makes benefeceries elidgable for other awards. Further, all participants will be interviewed and their back-stories featured in a Boardroom magazine along with other stories of Bahamian youth entrepreneurs and an essay on youth attitudes regarding entrepreneurship. The magazines will include product information and contact details which is an excellent opportunity for advertizing. The Ministry is currently in discussions with local domestic transportation companies to carry the magazine.
We expect to air the series in August and again in October during the 2016 National Youth Month celebrations. During October, Boardroom participants will be invited to participate in a Tradeshow to showcase their wares.
The MInistry is pleased to partner with the following private sector organiztions for the execution of this programme: BAIC, BTVI, The Vivian Group, Shift The Culture, and Mega Mergers. We are hopeful that other partnerships will emerge as discussions progress.
