45th Anniversary of Independence    National Recording Artist Search

WHAT IS The National Recording Artist Search?

As a flagship initiative of the Government of The Bahamas to commemorate the 45th Anniversary of Independence, a National Recording Artist Search has been commissioned to highlight aspiring vocal artist all over The Bahamas! The mission is to provide the opportunity for young Bahamians between the ages of 14 - 30 years to have their voice heard in a national and international arena. The competition is designed to nurture musical vocal talent and promote excellence in artistry.




  1. The competition is open to Bahamian citizens. Individuals or groups may enter but will be treated as one entity. Candidates must be between ages 14 - 30 years.


  1. Must be an amateur artist who is able to able to demonstrate that you do not have any of the following agreements in effect (written or oral): (1) a contract for talent representation, (2) a current music recording contract, (3) a current agreement relating to the use of your name, voice and/or likeness, (4) any other contractual agreement that would prohibit you from participating in the Pride Day or Independence Cultural Show and/or entering into any contracts with NRAS producers, including an exclusive management contract, recording contract, and/or merchandising contract.    


  • Cash Prize $500

  • Recording sessions with select local recording artists and producers, including Sammi Star, Julian Believe, Zoltan Johnson

  • Music demo production and packaging

  • Professional guidance with career strategy, career decisions, publicity and promotion, and media relations 

  • Promotion of musical talents to international A & R professionals



  • 2018 Live Performance, Clifford Park Independence Celebrations

  • Recording session with recording artist and Producer Sammi Star

  • Recording session with star producer Zoltan Johnson recording studio

  • Performance in the National Independence Cultural Celebration on Clifford Park

  • Professional assistance with show preparation for National Independence Cultural Celebration

  • Media coverage leading to National Cultural Celebration


The competition shall be coordinated at the national level. Entries will be judged on various criteria, such as vocal ability, uniqueness and stage presence etc.


  1. The Deadline for applications is Monday, May 28, 2018.  Applications are submitted online.  

  2. Live auditions will be held at the Ministry of Youth, Sports, & Culture on Saturday, June 2, 2018, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

  3. Contestants will not be allowed to sing with music or instrumental accompaniment and should be prepared to sing a song of your choice a-cappella. You should also be prepared to sing two additional a-cappella songs, if necessary, on the day of audition. 

  4. A maximum of seven (7) artists will be chosen in the preliminary round as semifinalists, with one being selected by the panel of judges as the Judges Choice Winner. The Judges Choice Winner will automatically be advanced to the final Grand Celebrations on Clifford Park. The Judges’ Choice and remaining semifinalists will be publicly announced Friday, June 15, 2018.

  5. The six remaining (6) semifinalist will perform on Friday, July 6, 2018, 10:00 a.m. during the National Pride Day Ceremony in Rawson Square, at which time one of the contestants will be selected the People’s Choice winner.

  6. ​The Grand Prize Winner & People’s Choice winner will perform live at the National Independence Celebrations on July 9th, Clifford Park. Immediately after the Clifford Park performances, 24-hour online voting will be open to the public to choose the winner of the first National Recording Artist Search.




  • The National Recording Artist Competition is open to all Bahamians between the ages of 14 to 30. Members of the National Independence Committee are not eligible to participate in the competition.


  • Must be an amateur artist who is free from contractual obligations to qualify.


  • Entrants agree to release, indemnify and hold the National Independence Committee, its sponsors, and judges harmless for liability, damages, or claims for injury or loss to person or property relating to, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, participation in promotional activities or entrants violation of any of these rules.


  • By entering the song competition, entrants agree to accept and be bound by the decisions of the National Independence Committee and its judges, which are final and binding in all matters.


  • The entrant hereby grants the National Independence Committee the rights to record, photograph, broadcast or otherwise publish for promotional purposes any portion of live performances of the entrants and of entrant’s songs.


  • Entrants agree to fully comply with, and be bound by, all terms and conditions imposed by these rules and regulations.


  • All entrants acknowledge that if he/she is selected or requested to perform during the competition, the said performances may be photographed, filmed or recorded. The Entrant hereby irrevocably grants to the National Independence Committee without any expectation of additional compensation, entrants permission, consent and authority to:

  1. Being so photographed, filmed and/or recorded

  2. Waive any and all rights of publicity or privacy

  3. Use and exploit entrant’s photographs, appearances, video, image,likeness, voice or recording in any and all manner, anywhere in the sole discretion of the National Independence Committee without the need for any further or additional consent, permission or authority from the entrant to do so.



Auditions are scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2018, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the Grand Foyer of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture on University Drive (formally Thompson Boulevard).
